Some nutrients need to be combined with fat to allow your body to absorb them, such as the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K

In particular, carotenoids such as beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin are poorly absorbed without fat. Unfortunately, many fruits and vegetables rich in carotenoids, such as watermelon and tomatoes, are low in fat

Therefore, adding avocado oil or another type of good fat to your meal may help you better absorb these nutrients.

In addition to vitamin E, avocado oil contains potassium, lecithin, and many other nutrients that can nourish and moisturize the skin.

The outermost layer of skin, known as the epidermis, easily absorbs these nutrients, which also help to form new skin.

Avocado oil also has been proven to improve a dry and flaking scalp. The seed oil has fungicidal and antibacterial activities, which is beneficial for someone who has seborrheic dermatitis where there is an imbalance of the microbiome on the surface of the skin (if you regulate the microbiome on the surface of the skin, you decrease inflammation). However, that avocado oil is not a replacement for medications that address conditions like psoriasis or seborrhea. With that being noted, the combination of medication, as well as the moisturizing benefits of avocado oil, can help relieve symptoms of those conditions. 

Say goodbye to itchy, irritated or damaged skin. Avocado oil is among the few oils that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can repair and protect the largest organ in your body—your epidermis. Fatty acids (aka the linolenic acid and oleic acid) are known for increasing collagen (like reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles) and speeding up the healing process of wounds.

Here are a few ways to add avocado oil to your diet:

Add a tablespoon to a smoothie

Drizzle it over a salad

Use it as a marinade for grilling meat

Include it when baking

Use it in homemade mayo

Drizzle it over vegetables before roasting

Top hummus off with it

Drizzle it over cold soups such as gazpacho

As a lotion for chapped skin: Massage a good amount of avocado oil into your skin after you bathe. You can use the avocado oil by itself, or add a few drops to one of your everyday body lotions.

As a facial oil moisturizer: Fill 2/3 of a 1-ounce bottle with avocado oil. Pick another nourishing oil like tamanu or emu and use it to fill up the last third of the bottle. Add three to four droplets of your favorite essential oil like lavender or rose. Twist on the cap and shake well.

A person with a dry scalp may benefit from using avocado oil in a hot oil treatment. To heat the oil, pour 3–5 tablespoons into a small glass jar, and place the jar in a saucepan of recently boiled water.

Test the temperature of the oil frequently, to prevent it from getting too hot. When the oil is warm, remove the jar from the water and gently massage the oil into the scalp.

The oil can be left overnight and shampooed out in the morning. This may help to reduce dandruff and dry, flaky skin on the scalp.
