Castor oil is a multi-purpose vegetable oil that people have used for thousands of years.
It’s made by extracting oil from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant.
These seeds, which are known as castor beans, contain a toxic enzyme called ricin. However, the heating process that castor oil undergoes deactivates it, allowing the oil to be used safely.
Castor oil has a number of medicinal, industrial and pharmaceutical uses.
It’s commonly used as an additive in foods, medications and skin care products, as well as an industrial lubricant and biodiesel fuel component.
In ancient Egypt, castor oil was burned as fuel in lamps, used as a natural remedy to treat ailments like eye irritation and even given to pregnant women to stimulate labor
Today, castor oil remains a popular natural treatment for common conditions like constipation and skin ailments and is commonly used in natural beauty products.
Stronger and Thicker Hair
Your scalp is the skin on your head, and the base for your hair follicles, so how you nourish it and how healthy it is has a direct impact on your hair follicle health. Dead hair follicles form on the scalp if your hair doesn’t get enough hydration and nutrition, and this could hinder hair growth while promoting hair loss. So oiling the hair with castor oil is of paramount importance. If you have dry scalp, do this every alternate day, and see a host of benefits. Those with oily scalps can get it done once or twice a week. Massaging the scalp with castor oil can also increase blood circulation, and boost hair growth from within, while simultaneously hydrating and nourishing the scalp.

When consumed by mouth, castor oil is broken down in the small intestine, releasing ricinoleic acid, the main fatty acid in castor oil. The ricinoleic acid is then absorbed by the intestine, stimulating a strong laxative effect
While castor oil is considered safe in small doses, larger amounts can cause abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
Although it can be used to relieve occasional constipation, castor oil is not recommended as a treatment for long-term issues.
For stretch marks, apply castor oil morning and night. Gently massage a liberal amount of this oil into your stretch marks. The primary benefit here is deep moisturization from the oil, which will soothe any itchiness and keep your stretch marks from drying out. Keeping these types of scars moisturized will make them less noticeable over time as they fade.
You can make the product more effective by massaging it into your skin, rather than just applying it on top of your scars. This will help the stretch marks heal even better.
The dose of castor oil used to treat constipation in adults is 15ml. To mask the taste, try putting the castor oil in the fridge for at least an hour to cool it. Then, mix it into a glass of milk or fruit juice.
Warning - Consult a physician before use. Not recommended for pregnant women and children
Warm the oil and apply it all over the scalp. Also coat the hair strands well, to combat any dryness or split ends.
Pro tip: Give your hair a warm castor oil massage 1-3 times a week to make sure your hair follicles are healthy and promote hair growth.
Make sure your eyebrows are clean and free of makeup. Use a cotton swab or clean mascara wand to wipe a small amount of castor oil over the eyebrows and massage the oil into the eyebrows. Avoid contact with eyes
Rub a few drops between the palms of your hands. Gently work the oil into your beard, goatee, and mustache to the depth of the skin.
