FAQs
1. Difference between Cold Pressed and Refined Oils?
Refined oil extraction often uses chemical solvents and high heat, both of which damage the bio-active compounds responsible for the benefits of the oil. Refined oil produces the highest oil yield, cheaper and faster. To make refined oil appear attractive, refined oil is processed to remove gums (a thick layer that forms in the oil) and then refine it further with acetic acid, hexane or bleaching soda. Sometimes they also do double-refining process. Also external heat (200 Celsius) is applied which destroys all the nutrients.
Cold Pressed oil is oil extracted in its natural form. Oils seeds are just pressed (crushed) to yield out oil. The method is just pressing, nothing else. And thus, naturally, cold pressed oil is very healthy with all natural nutrients and flavour. Cold pressing is more expensive as it takes longer and it produces lower yields – but it is the safest, most natural extraction method.
2. Why refine an oil?
To increase: the yield of oil extraction, the conservation (no expiration date indicated on the bottles) and to allow to press low quality seeds and sell on the market of low priced oils.
3. What makes KPP Oils so different?
A: Supermarket oils are filtered, refined, bleached, desodorized to increase shelf life; not much nutritional value remains in the oil. KPP oils are healthier as they are untreated and unfiltered. KPP Oils taste better. At the same time they have high nutritional value.
Instead of eating supplements just eat fresher healthier food.
4. How should oils be stored?
A: The bottles can be kept at room temperature out of direct sunlight. The oils are bottled in dark, opaque bottles to preserve them best. During hot summer months put them in fridge.
5. How long are the oils good for?
A: Up to six months. The oils though taste better the fresher they are. Buy in small quantities and refill your bottles regularly. KPP Oils are pressed on demand so you get the freshest oil possible.

13. I have heard that saturated fats are unhealthy. Does this mean that coconut oil is unhealthy?
NO! In fact it merits the description given its source: the "tree of life". Popular belief used to hold that coconut oil was unhealthy by virtue of its high level of saturated fat. However, not all saturated fats are alike and current research shows that the fatty acids in coconut oil, the medium chain triglycerides, do not raise serum cholesterol or contribute to heart disease like the long chain triglycerides found in seed oils. Coconut oil is easily digested and is not deposited as fat in arteries because it is metabolized directly without passing through the carnitine transport system. In fact, the evidence points to coconut oil as being a healthy oil.
14. What is the importance of fat in the diet?
Fats and oils are recognized as essential nutrients in both human and animal diets. They provide the most concentrated source of energy of any foodstuff, supply essential fatty acids (which are precursors for important hormones, the prostaglandins), contribute greatly to the feeling of satiety after eating, are carriers for fat soluble vitamins, and serve to make foods more palatable. Fats and oils are present in varying amounts in many foods. The principal sources of fat in the diet are meats, dairy products, poultry, fish, nuts, and vegetable fats and oils.
